Cats and the Single Woman

How is it that cats have evolved as a woman’s choice of pets? Although far from the truth-- many women are diehard dog fans as are many men cat lovers-- the cat has always been associated with the female sex. Let us take a good look at why.

First of all, let’s face it, cats are sexy. They slink around, they have a sensuous walk, and they remain aloof yet seek attention. Their stare is mysterious and they are independent yet love to be caressed. With the exception of Garfield, most women consider it an asset to have certain feline qualities. Although the neighborhood “cat woman” is considered to be an elderly outcast who surrounds herself with cats and open tuna cans, Batman’s nemesis Catwoman certainly gave a hot, new twist to that image as well.

In ancient Egypt, the cat was taken in as a wild, untamed creature used to kill off vermin. She slowly became domesticated and eventually worshipped for her grace and poise. In the mind of a woman, not only would she want to be associated with such a creature, but she most certainly would want a man to view her that way as well. Thus, the concept of a woman aligned with a feline creature became desirable. Even the soothing purr of a cat is enticing compared to the harsh bark of a dog.

So, are men really attracted to “cat-like” women? The answer is a resounding: Yes! What man wouldn’t want a beautiful, delicate creature swooshing up next to him, begging for attention with the unspoken promise of making it more than worth his while? How could he resist the swaying of the hips, the soft, delicate gait in those steps? And of course, how could he resist the gentle purring in his ear? That is until he realizes that his feline is an independent creature that does as she pleases, will tease him then leave him, and can oftentimes be devious and underhanded in order to get what she wants. At that point, he realizes that, although not as beautiful to look at, he ‘s best off coming home to a dog.

Dogs and The Single Man

Ever wonder why that single guyfriend who apparently is so successful financially and socially clings to his relationship with his dog (s) for dear life as if it were his life partner? Because essentially--it is.

As the divorce rate goes up and people are ever more pressed for time, we are forever trying to see where we can simplify things. How we can cut back, relax, enjoy and not have to worry. A dog presents just that in the life of a man. A friend, a partner he KNOWS how to please. This "partner" is loyal, does not demand to be taken out (well, maybe taken out....but with no expense incurred.). There are no ex-husbands in the picture and certainly no baggage from prior relationships. The meal is usually the same and a special treat comes thirty to a bag for under $5.00.

However, it is the predicability that he treasures the most. Although most men will tell you how they covet their freedom, the truth is that what they most cherish is the routine. They enjoy knowing that their "partner" will be there waiting for them when they get home, the same smile waiting to greet him, the same loving eyes looking up just waiting for that pat on the head. It's like that idyllic wife of the 1950's reborn in canine form.

No way is this an implication that any woman should resort to taking the feminist movement back five decades, but a woman who owns a dog can understand the beauty in the simplicity of the relationship and therefore better understand the mind of the man who loves his dog. Although she is a more intricate personality, she can understand the companionship he seeks and that she might very well seek herself. That is the beauty of commonality between dog owners-- A meeting of the minds that can lead to a meeting of much more.

Oliver

One of the attractions of The Right Breed is obviously that all who join are animal lovers. I know everyone has a different interest, animal, pet or breed, but I must say that my sweet Persian Oliver has made a huge difference in my children's lives and thus, my life. My children always wanted a pet but their father would never allow it. After our divorce, I didn't want the responsibility. Oliver was pretty much thrust upon us by an ex- boyfriend of mine who bought him then decided he didn't want him. My kids begged to keep him and I gave in.In the almost two years we have had him, he has been a companion for us all, follows us around, senses when we are down and actually comes to try and cheer us up and gives and demands affection. I know this is bizarre behavior for a cat but the truth is that in addition to his 9 lives, he also has a sixth sense. I know the taking care of him is part is the trade off- My son feeds him, my daughter grooms him and I got stuck with litter box duty-- but I never imagined he would have the impact that he has on our lives and I am grateful for it. Thank you Ollie-fur.

Online Dating for Pet Lovers

As per the latest press releases, The Right Breed is going to officially be launched on April 1, 2008. What does this mean to the online dating world? A very clear cut niche is now being catered to. For anyone who has ever been on a generic dating site, only to discover that the adorable guy who responded to your initial contact actually hates cats and would not consider dating you unless you disposed of your 12-year old Persian kitty, this is the place to go.
Dog lovers in particular will find the site interesting as you can search by breed if you so choose. Since the site is new, people are still signing up (go for it...IT'S FREE!) so not all breeds and demographics are represented, but this gap should close in the subsequent months.
Anyone who has a cherished pet (or just loves animals in general) will be able to relate to this site. A beloved pet signifies an uncomplicated relationship where each one knows where the other stands. Pet owners tend to be more giving and more understanding as a whole because of the nature of the caring, affection and responsibilities of the maintenance of an animal in the home. Therefore, when they go in search of a partner, they are looking for the same qualities.
The Right Breed is a reflection of those characteristics. It is looking to give back to the community by eventually starting a program for the elderly, veterans, sick children and the disabled to adopt pets. It's a win/win for all.
Since The Right Breed is so new, all suggestions and comments are welcome. They will be read, analyzed and taken very heavily into consideration. Please come, pay us a visit, sign up and let us know how we can cater the site to the user's needs. See you there!
